Key Characteristics

The following are true of a mapping:

  • It is a visual representation of a relation or of a pairing of inputs with outputs.

  • Arrows connect inputs to corresponding outputs.

  • It can be used to quickly determine if a relation is a function.

  • Data from a mapping can also be represented graphically in a table or as a set of ordered pairs.
