The following are true of the process of interpreting a remainder:

  • It refers to the meaning of any "remaining" amounts in terms of the divisor when dividing.

  • It may require determination of a fractional part of the divisor.

  • It sometimes can require a determination of reasonableness based on context. For example, would a fractional part of something be appropriate? Why or why not?
