In this resource, you will be creating a table of values from a quadratic equation.
You will be given an algebraic equation for a quadratic function and asked to create a table of values for it.
Create a table of values for y = x2 – 2x – 3.
x | Substitute Into Equation y = x2 – 2x – 3 |
y | Point (x, y) |
0 | y = (0)2 – 2(0) – 3 y = 0 – 0 – 3 y = - 3 |
- 3 | (0, - 3) |
1 | y = (1)2 – 2(1) – 3 y = 1 – 2 – 3 y = - 4 |
- 4 | (1, - 4) |
2 | y = (2)2 – 2(2) – 3 y = 4 – 4 – 3 y = - 3 |
- 3 | (2, - 3) |
- 1 | y = (- 1)2 – 2(- 1) – 3 y = 1 + 2 – 3 y = 0 |
0 | (- 1, 0) |
When you make a table from a graph, you are really just listing the coordinates of a few points that lie on the graph of the function. Remember that there are an infinite number of points on the graph, but you are only going to list a few ordered pairs.
Create a table of values for y = 2x2 + 8x + 10.
You may pick your own values for x, but for this example they are given. Click on the blanks to reveal the answers.
