In this resource, you will be creating a table of values from a quadratic equation.

You will be given an algebraic equation for a quadratic function and asked to create a table of values for it.

Example

Create a table of values for y = x2 – 2x – 3.

  1. Pick some values for the independent variable, x. (First column of the table)
  2. Substitute each value into the given equation. (Second column of the table)
  3. Simplify.
  4. The result is the dependent variable, y, for each corresponding x. (Third column of the table)
  5. An additional column is added to the table to display the ordered pair for the graph of the function.

More Information

When you make a table from a graph, you are really just listing the coordinates of a few points that lie on the graph of the function. Remember that there are an infinite number of points on the graph, but you are only going to list a few ordered pairs.
