Nonrandom mating is when individuals seek mates in a subpopulation. An example would be a duck that only selects other ducks with red feathers. This decreases the diversity of the population.

Migration is when individuals of a population leave the original population. An example would be all ducks with black feathers departing the original population, leaving only the ducks with white feathers. This decreases the diversity of a population.

Genetic drift can be defined as when chance events reduce the numbers of a certain group of individuals. An example would be a landslide that takes out all of the black-haired mice in the population, leaving only brown-haired mice and white-haired mice. This decreases the diversity of a population.

A mutation is defined as random changes to DNA. These changes can occur during DNA replication or can be caused by environmental factors. An example of a mutation would be changes in the DNA of mice that results in larger leg muscles. The larger leg muscles would allow the mice to escape predators. This increases the diversity of a population.

Natural selection is when certain individuals are chosen over others due to better fit in the environment. An example would be when birds eat white moths more often because they are easily seen on black trees. This decreases the diversity of a population.
