New construction in a rural area can affect the amount of food, shelter, and space that a population needs to survive. As a result of this interaction, the carrying capacity of the area would be significantly lowered.Close Pop Up

A man-made dam can affect carrying capacity in two ways. Organisms living upstream of the dam may have more water available to them, causing the carrying capacity to increase for their populations. The population below the dam that rely on the water from the river would have a smaller number of individuals because of the smaller number of resources available. Close Pop Up

A kitchen sponge is used to clean the sink after cutting raw chicken. When left on the side of the sink, the sponge will support the growth of bacteria. It provides more of the limited resources needed for survival of the population. Close Pop Up
