Directions: After you have finished learning about tectonics forces and other physical processes complete the following simulation to test your understanding of this concept and realize why it is an important concept to study.

You are a scientist in 1915 and have been nagged by the idea that the coast lines of South America and Africa look like puzzle pieces that have been pulled apart. Use the above information to formulate your theory of tectonic forces in a letter to the Royal Geological Society in Britain to persuade the Society to accept the Theory of Continental Drift (Tectonic Forces).

In order to persuade the Society, please include your thoughts about the following topics:

  1. Divergent boundaries
  2. Convergent boundaries
  3. Folding

Once you have gathered your thoughts, answer the following questions to bring to the Royal Geological Society:

  1. Why should we be concerned about this theory? (In other words, so what!)
  2. How could we benefit from accepting and believing in this theory?
  3. Give your explanation for South America and Africa resembling puzzle pieces that have been pulled apart.
